GreenDeals is one of the larger green daily deal services. It has 165,000 members, earned mostly by word of mouth since launching in late 2010, two years after Groupon.
Online Retailers Promote Cyber Monday
Chances are you won't find any of these holidays on your calendar. Yet retailers are coming up with names for just about every day of the week during the holiday shopping season.
During T-Mobile's "Magenta Saturday," the event named for the company's pinkish-purple logo earlier this month offered shoppers the chance to buy cellphones and some tablets on a layaway plan. Mattel lured customers in with discounts of 60 percent off toys for girls and boys on "Pink Friday and "Blue Friday." And outdoor retailer Gander Mountain is giving customers deals on camouflage and other gear every Thursday through December during "Camo Thursdays."

Cyber Monday. Green Tuesday. Black Friday. Magenta Saturday.
Chances are you won't find any of these holidays on your calendar. Yet retailers are coming up with names for just about every day of the week during the holiday shopping season.

"There are hundreds of promotions going on this time of year," says Steve Uline, head of marketing for Gander. "We needed to do something a little bit different."
Not into the chaos of corporate Christmas sales? Green Tuesday might be for you
A riot broke out over $2 waffle irons, deal-crazed shoppers ignored a dying man in a Target and a woman pepper sprayed her competition in a dramatic battle to the Xbox isle. This is Black Friday.
If you’re looking to get a head start on your Christmas shopping but don’t feel the need to fight your fellow human beings or even support corporate America, Green Deals’ weeklong Green Tuesday event might be your cup of tea.

You’ve probably heard of Groupon—a mash-up of “group coupon”—which offers deep, daily, online discounts to subscribers for popular businesses, from spas to restaurants, in a particular locale. Since that business model took off in November 2008, a slew of copycat sites have popped up hoping to emulate Groupon's social networking finesse and swelling customer base. GreenDeals, which launched last fall, is one of the latest shopping sites to follow in Groupon's footsteps, but with bargains centered on green goods and services.
How GreenDeals Works
Once you register online, you can purchase a GreenDeal coupon to redeem at a business' site or you can buy a discounted product directly—from organic lotions, to a stay at an eco lodge, to fair trade sandals or a filter-containing water bottle. Members receive e-mail updates whenever new deals become available.

GreenDeals and Jonah Mytro Featured on GreenMarketing.tv Interview
In another bid to bring greener products and services to eco-minded consumers, GreenDeals, another groupon-style website with a sustainability twist, offers discounts and deals (which are 30-60% off retail price) from national green businesses. The new site offers two types of green deals:
1. A GreenDeal Coupon which is purchased on our site and is available to redeem online at a merchant’s e-commerce website.
2. A product sale where items are sold and shipped to the consumer.
GreenDeals offers anything from reusable water bottles to natural skin care products to eco-friendly clothing to vegan chocolates to nontoxic cleaning products. Users visit GreenDeals and have the opportunity to purchase the GreenDeal which expire usually in 24-72 hours. All of the
GreenDeals are limited in quantity which creates a limited supply available in the market place. We wanted to know what it takes to start an online green marketplace like GreenDeals. Our interview with the green entrepreneur Jonah Mytro follows.

GreenDeals Aims to Be a Groupon for Green Shoppers
Green America, a network of environmentally and socially responsible businesses, is trying to shift the group-shopping mentality to a greener place.
The organization yesterday launched a "Groupon for Greenies" called GreenDeals, which offers a similar service as the widely popular coupon website, but focused on offers from green companies
GreenDeals was created in partnership with Q4 Marketing, and the groups say that more than 100,000 people signed up to use the service when it was in its beta-testing phase.

Not that there's a shortage of venues for online bargain shopping, but here's a new one that might interest TreeHuggers: GreenDeals, a recent initiative from Green America, one of the more reliable sources of information on environmentally-friendly and ethically-produced goods.
GreenDeals offers deals around the country, and while the site design might not be as smooth as other Groupon sites, it has more promising options for people who want to make ethical buying choices but not write a research paper on every product they ever buy.
GreenDeals has options both on a daily basis and as part of a group purchasing program. And will presumably help to further Green America's fundamental mission: "to harness economic power--the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace--to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society."

Eco-minded shoppers get 'Groupon for Greenies'
Green shopping may get a tad easier with the recent launch of free online services, including one that replicates the popular deal of-the-day sites such as Groupon and Living Social.
Green Deals, a sort of "Groupon for Greenies," features special offers from eco-minded companies and tips on green living. It's run by Green America and its partner Q4 Marketing.
"From household necessities to great gift ideas, GreenDeals provides terrific products from businesses that have been screened by Green America for their social and environmental responsibility," Alisa Gravitz, the group's executive director, said in a statement.

GreenDeals Launches for Eco-Friendly Deals
It seems like there’s a Groupon clone for every need. Want great discounts on clothes/shoes/food/dining/adult products? There’s a Groupon clone for that. A new niche Groupon clone launched Wednesday for consumers who want discounts but not at the expense of the environment. Green Deals, launched by Green America, will serve up eco-friendly deals (or just everyday deals) from green businesses that have been approved by Green America.
To determine whether a business is a “green business,” Green America requires that the business demonstrate that it is focused on using its platform for positive social change, is “values-driven” as well as profit-driven, is socially and environmentally responsible in the way it sources, manufactures, and markets its products (as well as how it runs its offices and factories), and employs “extraordinary and innovative” practices that benefit workers, communities, customers, and the environment. So it’s not a badge the organization tosses out lightly.
Businesses in the network include Earth Lov'n Paper Products, To-Go Ware (re-usable eating utensils for when you want to order food on the go but don’t want to use disposable containers), Numi Tea, World World Flowers, International Bicycle Fund, and more.
