Save 25% on Eco-Friendly Handbags from Rebagz.com and help support Global Exchange
At Rebagz Handbags we’re redefining fashion by pairing smart style with sustainability. All our bags are made using recycled materials, and they’re as human-friendly as they are eco-friendly because Rebagz are all made under fair labor conditions. (Our bags even carry Green America’s Seal of Approval). But first and foremost, our bags make a vivid fashion statement – because we’d all like to look good while doing good. And that’s probably why we were named 2009 California Small Business of the Year.

Fashion that’s obviously eco – what we call “beige and itchy” – has seen its day. It’s time for beautiful bags that are simply made the way things ought to be made, and that’s where Rebagz come in. Our “Statement Makers” line is made using coated recycled paper and recycled PET plastic for the straps. The “Juicy Hand Woven” bags are made from hand woven recycled juice packs and our “Rice Sack Graphics” line incorporates recycled rice sacks that already have those amazing graphics printed on them. (Yes, the sacks looked that beautiful carrying rice around before they got to us! We don’t screen print anything on them or laminate them.)
Part of the proceeds from many of our new “Statement Makers” help wonderful organizations, ncluding Greenpeace, the KIND Campaign and the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund. We also donate $1 per order to Global Exchange, an organization Marty Stevens-Heebner, our company’s president, worked with when she did human rights work in Chiapas, Mexico.
Rebagz have been featured on the “Today Show,” and our Large Tie Tote was voted “favorite eco-bag” by InStyle magazine’s readers in July 2009. Our “Life is a Circle” Bag received a “Best in Show” award at the New York International Gift Fair in August 2008 from New Age Retail for the bags‘ eye-catching style.

2. Microwave cautiously
3. Wash safely: Don't wash polycarbonate plastics in the dishwasher using harsh detergents

5. Cut back on cans: Reduce your use of canned foods since many cans are lined with BPA-containing resin.

Tip #367: Green Driving Tip
If it's clear that a train or other barrier will block your vehicle for more than 30 seconds, turn off the engine. An idling vehicle burns more fuel than a simple restart. And you won't be polluting when the engine is off.

Tip #363: Teaching the Next Generation About Litter

Tip #361: 10 Tips on Consuming Less
Tip #360: Buy Local
By buying locally grown food and locally made products whenever possible, you'll be helping preserve the environment (think far less transportation), and you'll be strengthening your community by investing your dollar close to home. Plus, when it comes to produce alone, most fruits and vegetables in the US are picked 4 to 7 days before being placed on supermarket shelves and shipped for an average of 1500 miles before being sold. And this is when taking into account only US grown products! Products imported from other countries travel much farther.
Tip #359: Easy Way to Check for Leaks
Add a few drops of food coloring to your toilet's upper tank. If the color seeps into the bowl, it's time to get that leak fixed!
Tip #358: Things to Consider When Choosing Plants for Your Garden
When planning your own green garden, opt for vegetables and plants native to your area. They adapt to the climate and won’t need extra water. Also, choose plants that grow within the area planned. This will lessen the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
Tip #357: The Basic Ten Green Cleaning Products
Here are "The Basic Ten" products you can use to clean just about anything, courtesy of GreenAmerica.org:
1) White vinegar: An antifungal that also kills germs and bacteria.
2) Baking soda: Eliminates odors and works as a gentle scouring powder.
3) Borax: Borax, the common name for the natural mineral compound sodium borate, eliminates odors, removes dirt, and acts as an antifungal and possible disinfectant. Use with care around children and pets, as it can be toxic if swallowed.
4) Hydrogen peroxide (3% concentration): A great nontoxic bleach and stain remover, as well as a proven disinfectant.
5) Club soda (fresh): A stain remover and polisher.
6) Lemon juice: A pleasant-smelling nontoxic bleach, grease-cutter, and stain remover.
7) Liquid castile soap: An all-purpose cleaner, grease-cutter, and disinfectant. “Castile” means the soap is vegetable-based, not animal-fat-based.
8) Corn meal: Great at picking up carpet spills.
9) Olive oil: Makes a wonderful furniture polish.
10) Pure essential oils: Adding all-natural, organic essential oils to your cleaning concoctions can add wonderful scents to your housekeeping endeavors. Some—such as lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, lemongrass, and tea tree oils—also may have antibacterial, antifungal, or insect-repelling properties.
Tip #356: Save On Energy Costs When It Comes to Computers
Shutting down your home computer every night will save an average of $90 over the course of a year. Another good tip is to shut it down if you don’t plan to use it for the next couple hours. Even turning off the monitor can help reduce energy costs. Also, if you have a choice, use a laptop computer instead of a desktop. Laptops use only a quarter of the power required by a desktop computer.
Tip #355: Fix Your Drips
If you have a dripping faucet in the house, replace the washer inside it. If you stop a faucet from leaking one drop each second, you can save 2,700 gallons of water a year.
Tip #354: Take Small Steps Over Time to Transition Your Home into a Green One
The thought of transitioning your home into a green home may sound daunting or even expensive. Instead of trying to do it all at once, develop a strategic plan that you and your family can implement over a period of time. Set goals along the way and make small but significant changes as you can.
