$18 for $30 Coupon for Fair Trade  Handbags, Home Goods and Accessories from Dsenyo.com

Dsenyo is a social enterprise.  We believe business is a powerful way to address social and economic problems. Countless challenges confront creative and industrious people in Malawi, Africa as they try to build their small businesses, practice their craft and support their families.

fair trade clothing and apparel

After living and working in Malawi, artist Marissa Perry Saints founded Dsenyo in an effort to create opportunity for hard-working, African women and artisans.  Dsenyo offers hand-crafted bags and accessories that celebrate African textile design.  We follow Fair Trade principles working to create maximum benefit for the women, artisans and communities in which we work.

Dsenyo accessories are handcrafted in Malawi and Colorado. We work with several sewing cooperatives and are expanding our production in Africa. By 2012 all Dsenyo products will be made in Malawi. Dsenyo pays a fair wage, develops long-term relationships with producers and provides much needed employment for women and artisans. In addition to creating jobs, we donate a portion of sales to community development projects in Malawi, and partner with nonprofits here and abroad to help them raise money for their causes.

Living in NYC, Recycled your Batteries or Face a Fine

Beginning on December 5, 2011, New York residents are required to recycle their rechargeable batteries—including cell phone, digital camera and rechargeable alkaline batteries—or pay a fine. The law was signed by Gov. David Patterson last year, and also mandates that retailers that sell rechargeable batteries must accept them back from their customers for recycling purposes. The fines for state residents for rechargeables found in the trash start at $50 for the first offense, $100 for a second within 12 months of the first, and $200 for the third or more offenses within a year of the first.

Say no to junk mail!

Each year American households receive a total of 104.7 billion pieces of junk mail or 848 pieces of junk mail per household, requiring 6.5 million tons of paper.

Not only are these a nuisance they are also a tremendous source of waste as trees, chemicals, and water are used during production and printing, and fuel energy is wasted during the delivery and recycling process.

Help save paper, water and fuel resources by stopping the waste at its source - tell these companies to stop sending you things you don't want.  Anyone, including businesses, can sign up and create a free account at www.catalogchoice.org and start opting-out today.
