Socially responsible investing , also known as SRI, sustainable, socially conscious, green or ethical investing. Social responsible investing is the process of working with an investment strategy that seeks to consider both financial return and social good instead of pure profits.

Socially responsible investors are encouraged by corporate practices that promote environmental stewardship, consumer protection, human rights, and diversity. Most, if not all social responsible investors avoid businesses involved in alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons, and/or the military/defense contractors. Social responsible investors focus on investments with benefits to the environment, social justice, and corporate governance. Social responsible investors trade stocks, mutual funds, as well as shareholder advocacy and community investing.

Socially responsible investing is used more broadly to cover more proactive practices such as impact investing, shareholder advocacy and community investing.
